Normalization for Fashion

As the pandemic seems to finally be coming to a close, I am thrilled to be able to shift my focus back to fashion. Our lives changed drastically overnight. Gone were the days of fashion shows, travels and dressing our best. But those days are on the horizon again, and there are new and exciting trends taking shape.

Colorful Monograms: It seems that like so many of us, a few major fashion houses are sharing in the feelings of optimism and joy for the season ahead. Fendi, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton have introduced colorful and summer inspired iterations of their classic monograms. Fendi leads the charge with their “Summer Vertigo” collection. The iconic Zucca is distorted and printed in various colors onto both leather and canvas and is available in a variety of shapes and sizes from the perfect travel tote to the crowd favorite “Mon Tresor” bucket bag. It is no surprise that my favorite in the new collection remains the iconic Baguette, this time in yellow. At Louis Vuitton, the “By the Pool” collection sold out almost instantaneously. Their iconic monogram is reborn in ombre pastels from peach to pale pink and periwinkle. Lastly, Gucci has introduced multicolor canvas versions of their supreme canvas in their popular Marmont line. The combination of pink, red, and green canvases makes the Marmont camera bag a particular favorite for me.

Maximalist staples: So many of us have spent the past 18 months with empty social and event calendars. As the world reopens and our calendars fill up, many are making up for lost time! People are going bigger and bolder when it comes to taking fashion risks, especially when it comes to elevating everyday closet staples. My personal favorite is all of the embellished denim we are seeing. Insta-Famous jeweler Stephanie Gottlieb recently launched a collaboration with Joe’s Jeans. The collaboration features both jeans and denim shorts embellished with white or multicolored crystals. The chicest pair of the bunch is a skinny jean featurings strands of crystal fringe sewn onto the pockets that would be the perfect pairing for a t-shirt or oversized sweater and a bold sandal for a date night. Miu Miu has also gotten in on the action, launching a groundbreaking upcycling collaboration with Levi’s. The Italian fashion house brought its whimsical glamour to an American classic. My favorite piece from the collection is a boyfriend jean that is so heavily embellished with crystals one could easily mistake it for a chandelier which will most definitely be making their way into my wardrobe for a debut at New York Fashion Week.
